Canada will create History this Season

For the first time in the history of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Canada will be hosting and receiving certain matches. The BMO Field is a soccer-specific stadium which is located in Toronto and is one of the locations where a few matches of the Gold Cup are going to take place.

The BMO Field represents an important and historic soccer location for Canada as it plays home to Canada’s National Soccer Team as well as Toronto FC which is Canada’s first Major League Soccer Team. It also was the main venue for the FIFA U-20 World Cup where over 250,000 fans went during 12 matches to watch matches.

Victor Montagliani is the Canadian Soccer President and he expressed his delight about the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup competition being held in Canada for the first time as he stated just how important this is and what it represents.

Victor Montagliani said: “Today marks another great step in Canada’s development to become a leading soccer nation and we would like to thank CONCACAF for the opportunity to have such a marquee event played on Canadian soil’’

‘’Canadian soccer fans have always taken great pride in showing their support for Canada during this key tournament, traveling across the region to represent our country, and it is with great honor that we worked with CONCACAF to bring the beautiful game closer to them for the 2015 edition. We now hope that they will be rewarded with seeing Canada play its final group match in Toronto this summer!”

Mexico is the most successful nation on this competition after having won it a total of 6 times meanwhile United States is following them closely behind with only one title less. Canada and Honduras have lifted the trophy on one occasion each.
